New Year’s Resolutions for Your Organisation

Posted by Eimear McCarthy on Thu, Jan 7, 2016
It is a long fast tradition to make a resolution when the New Year comes around. The classic resolutions revolve around our health, relationships and our finances, but what about our businesses? It might be time to start thinking about how you can whip your business into shape for 2016 with the help from Softworks Workforce Management Software.

Softworks helps companies organise the working day in a way which makes them more productive, profitable and adds value to operations. Our ultimate goal from day one was and still is to make a positive difference to the working lives of our users, their organisations and employees. Sounds like a pretty good way to start the New Year to me!

The post-Christmas slump, a lack of money and the dark nights all put a dampener on the first month of the year. But there is no reason why you cannot start off 2016 in your organisation in a more positive manner. Just think of the possibilities if you had flextime in your organisation;

  • Better retention rates
  • Reduced costs – It may be possible in some instances to double up on facilities e.g. desk/computer sharing etc.
  • Improved productivity
  • Better work/life balance for employees
  • Increased employee satisfaction and morale
  • Greater job satisfaction
  • Increased energy and creativity
  • Reduces absences and tardiness
  • Better customer service

The normal 9 - 5 Monday to Friday office routine is becoming less of a norm with the increasing popularity and opportunities for flexible working practices. Both employees and employers are starting to see the benefits that this style of working can bring. The obvious benefit to an employee is the ability to accommodate employees who have trouble balancing their jobs or families. In order to retain those employees it would be in the company’s best interests to allow their staff to have a flexible schedule. Employees value flexible schedules as a way to balance work and non-work responsibilities. Flexible schedules are helpful for workers who are raising families, attending school, commuting long distances or balancing multiple jobs.

Many employers in the UK and Ireland are still reluctant to offer alternative working hours to employees. Perhaps it’s the fear that employees will take advantage or they feel the need to micromanage. So what about all the organisations which do offer flexible working hours? They may come across as clever business leaders who understand that happy employees are loyal employees, experienced and skilled members of the workforce are worth retaining and that having a flexible attitude and work policy attracts like-mined people and in the long run, everybody in the organisation wins.
